Nursing Registration

In order to practice nursing in Australia you are required to register in the State or Territory in which you intend to work.  There are different Nursing Registration Boards and application procedures for each Australian State and Territory.

An Austra Health consultant will be able to suggest which Nursing Board will best suit your plans and can help to facilitate the application process, or view the sites directly via our Useful Links page.

Processing Time

The Nursing Registration process can take anywhere from 2-4 months, so if you are keen to travel as soon as possible, you should start your Nursing Registration application immediately.  It is also essential to have valid Nursing Registration before a sponsorship visa application can be finalised, so early applications for Nursing Registration can save time in your visa processing.

Average Costs

The cost of Nursing Registration depends on the Nursing Board to which you are applying.  The current cost for the Nurses Board of Victoria, for example, is AUD $145.  For details about the Nursing Registration costs in each state, please contact the relevant Nursing Board or check their website.

Certified Documents

Each of the Nursing Boards requires supporting documents to be certified as a "true copy of the original".  In many cases, the Nursing Boards request such certification to follow very specific criteria.  We will ensure you are made fully aware of the specifications that apply to you. Mutual Recognition

Mutual Recognition enables you to apply for Nursing Registration with a second Australian state without having to duplicate the initial application process.  The process requires less documentation and can often be granted on the spot, if you make your application in person.
