New Zealand Job Expo 2008
On 19-20 July, Bayside Personnel, one of Australia's leading engineering and recruitment agencies, attended New Zealand Job Expo 2008 in Auckland.
The New Zealand Job Expo invites jobseekers from all over the world to learn more about work opportunities in New Zealand and Australia. This year, the event was a great success, with a total attendance of approximately 6600 people. The event attracted more than 40 companies, some of which included local and international recruitment agencies, government agencies, Australian health departments and food companies. Bayside Personnel had the opportunity to meet with all types of potential candidates, ranging from tradespeople to mechanical engineers, and civil engineers, as well as various administration staff.
Assisting Engineers to move to Australia
Bayside Personnel attended the expo for two reasons: Firstly, Bayside Personnel recognised the growing engineering talent pool in New Zealand. Secondly, rapid growth and opportunities in the Australian job market, in combination with the present skills shortage, means that many skilled positions are becoming virtually impossible to fill. Bayside Personnel felt the expo was an opportunity worth exploring.
"Engineers in the Australian marketplace are scarce; and therefore we need to take a dynamic approach to our recruitment practices," explains Oscar Olsson, Bayside Personnel Recruitment Consultant, "New Zealanders are skilled, experienced, and a strong cultural fit for most companies based in Australia. Therefore, it was only natural to visit local and international jobseekers living in New Zealand, while giving us the chance to assess prospective career pathways for those who want to live and work in Australia."
Visa Sponsorship through Bayside Personnel
International recruitment is becoming increasingly common among Australian employers. Under current legislation, recruitment agencies are unable to sponsor overseas skilled workers unless approved by the Federal Government as a 457 sponsor. In April 2008, Bayside Personnel was awarded a Labour Agreement, giving the agency the ability to sponsor overseas skilled workers, allowing them to be on-hired for work in Australia.
"As an approved 457 visa sponsor, Bayside Personnel has the ability to sponsor overseas skilled professionals. This means we can recruit outside of Australia, sourcing qualified individuals from anywhere in the world." says Olsson.
As the expo came to a close, Bayside Personnel was pleased with the calibre and number of Australian-bound jobseekers. "We had the pleasure of meeting with many potential candidates. We are currently sorting through resumes of potential candidates who showed interest in working in Australia." says Olsson.
