AIG's National Sustainability Forum

Bayside Personnel Environmental & Water Division was proud sponsor of the Australia Industry Group's National Sustainability Forum 2009 recently held at the Langham Hotel in Melbourne.

The event attracted some of Australia's most inspiring figures leading the way for environmental change. There were a number of insightful presentations given by key industry figures, such as The Honourable Gavin Jennings MP, Minister for the Environment, Climate Change, and Innovation. Other presenters included:

  • The AI Group
  • KPMG
  • Murray Goulburn Cooperative
  • Alcoa Australia
  • Toyota Motor Corporation
  • Jetstar
  • Linfox
  • WSP Environmental

The content of the day centred upon the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme and Emissions Trading. Some presentations also touched upon NGERS and EEO data gathering, compliance and impacts.

Examples from industry specialists transformed bright ideas into tangible business solutions. Some ways in which companies can achieve dramatic savings are:

  • Transport costs by speed reduction schemes including benefits of increased driver safety
  • Reduced emissions and the overall need for carbon offsets
  • Electricity costs savings by reducing lighting

Although highly controversial, the overall conclusion by industry leaders engaged in the carbon neutral and footprint assessments were positive, as the key impacts could result in sustantial savings in energy consumption as well as company dollars.
