Sponsorship
What does being sponsored by Bayside mean for you?
Listed below are some frequently asked questions about our sponsorship of international employees.
How long will I be sponsored for?
The initial sponsorship is usually for two years with an option of extending.
Do I need to sign a contract and what does this involve?
You will be required to sign an initial Employment Contract which will commence on the day of arrival in Australia. You would only be able to work for another organisation within the two years of sponsorship if another employer is willing to take over the sponsorship responsibility from Bayside Drafting Australia Pty Ltd.
When am I eligible to start work?
You will be eligible to commence work as soon as you arrive in Australia. We usually take two days for orientation following a couple of rest days. You should be able to commence work within five days after arrival.
Can the sponsorship be extended?
An extension of sponsorship may be available if your performance over the 24 month period was satisfactory. This would be subject to us being able to obtain further sponsorship approval from DIAC.
What about obtaining a permanent position?
At any time will you be able to apply for permanent residency with the Australian Government, if eligible, which would enable you to work in Australia permanently.
Can I depart Australia within the initial 24 month period?
A sponsored employee may depart Australia if either party terminates the contract, or if on approved leave.
What happens if I wish to break the contract?
You may terminate the contract at any time by advising us in writing giving us 28 days notice. Once the contract is terminated, sponsorship will cease and you must depart Australia at your own cost.
